Tell Me Where to Go (2015 – ongoing)

‘Tell Me Where to Go’ is an ongoing photographic exercise designed to add chance and randomness into the selection of a photographic location and subject matter. The project will end after the 23rd location, culminating in 23 final photographs from  23 separate, yet process-associated, locations.

“Tell Me Where to Go’ is about staying fresh, and keeping the ability to both look, and to see, sharp.

Inspiration for the project came about when I found myself between projects, and at loose ends. I would end up returning to the same locations again, and again to take photos, even though I felt I had explored the locations well beyond my satisfaction.

From this need to seek new locales, I created ‘Tell Me Where to Go’ as a social media-based exercise to randomly direct me to different places within the Lower Mainland surrounding Vancouver, BC.

Creating a set of parameters – directions, means of transport, and defined distances – I established a Facebook Group and invited 23 of my friends to join. Each week I would start from a different, defined location in the city, and then set out based on the various parameters that had been chosen from my established list by my Facebook Group friends. An example would be:

Walk; 23 minutes; Current Direction; Turn; in; 23 metres; spin

More images will be added as the project progresses.
