From One Star, Millions
2021 – 2022
A camera is not just a means for capturing a definitive moment. It is also an illustrative tool that facilitates the layering of time and the superimposition of perceptions.
From One Star, Millions is the sun on the movement of the sea. Using multiple exposure features in-camera, the images created are an overlaying of light and time. – expressing the shape of the sea only by capturing the specular highlights created by its movement. With the camera I “painted” the sea. The process is both additive (to the highlights) and reductive (to the shadows), highlighting some features while obliterating others, to create “day for night” images that express the passage of time upon the water.
From One Star, Millions is a series within the ‘Persistence of Vision’ project exploring the aspect of time through in-camera techniques to create multiple exposures of a subject combined into a single image.
Superstructures: Treeees
2022
I am always looking for new ways to see using the camera and taking advantage of the opportunities the camera offers for new forms of visual representation. Superstructures: Treeees expands upon SuperStructures: Bigger!Taller!MoreDynamic! examining the first real superstructutres – before buildings.
Using the multiple exposure features in-camera I “painted” trees with the camera. The process is both additive and reductive, highlighting some features while obliterating others, to create images that express the structure of nature in a new and dynamic way.

Superstructures: Bigger! Taller! More Dynamic!
2022
I am always looking for new ways to see using the camera and taking advantage of the opportunities the camera offers for new forms of visual representation. With Superstructures, the subject matter was my own city – Vancouver, Canada – where additions to the skyline are an ongoing concern. The initial results were exciting – reminding me of the Mies van der Rohe drawing for his proposed skyscraper from the 1920’s.
Using the multiple exposure features in-camera I “painted” buildings with the camera. The process is both additive and reductive, highlighting some features while obliterating others, to create images that express the city in a new and dynamic way.

Winnebagoes
2016 – Ongoing
A typological study of the various vans, campers, and motor homes parked around Vancouver, Canada.
Motor homes are usually associated with family adventures and camping trips. However, these urban campers are far from the glamour of #vanlife influencers, living on peripheries in small caravans – usually in the marginal and industrial zones where free parking still exists, yet close to work opportunities and services – has become a regular way of life in a city where the cost of living is leaving many behind.
